My Journey: How I Became a Restaurant Designer

Hola! I am Antoinette Emanuel, an interior designer specializing in restaurant design. I was born in Peru, raised and based in Miami. I'd like to share my journey in this industry, shedding light on the art and science of creating captivating restaurant spaces.

My career in restaurant design wasn't a deliberate choice but rather a fortuitous twist of fate. Initially, I focused on residential projects, which offered their own charm. However, my path took an unexpected turn when I had the privilege of meeting Juan Chipoco, a visionary entrepreneur, and began working on my first restaurant project - the iconic Cviche 105 in Miami-Downtown.

At that point, my knowledge of restaurant design was limited, but this project ignited a newfound passion within me. I resolved to design a space where I'd be proud to bring my girlfriends for brunch. From that moment, my specialization in restaurant design was born, allowing me to express my creativity more freely.

As someone with a background in fine arts, I appreciate the uninhibited artistic expression when designing restaurants. Each space is a blank canvas, allowing me to play with diverse elements such as lighting fixtures, textiles, and custom-made furniture, tailored to suit the unique ambiance of the establishment. The challenge is to craft a space that not only looks appealing but also tells it's own unique story.

Restaurant design isn't just about aesthetics; it's about crafting an immersive experience. Every detail, from the color palette to the layout of tables and the selection of lighting, plays a critical role in shaping the customer's experience. Each project presents a new challenge, an opportunity to infuse the space with character and charm, while ensuring it aligns with the restaurant's culinary identity.

Miami's vibrant, multicultural culinary scene is a dynamic canvas for restaurant designers. It's a city where cultures and cuisines converge, offering a wealth of inspiration. As a restaurant designer in Miami, I have the privilege of working on projects that reflect this rich tapestry, each telling their own story through design.

My journey into restaurant design was a serendipitous one, but it's a path I wholeheartedly embrace. With each project, I have the privilege of bringing a piece of my artistic vision to life. Restaurant design is not merely a profession; it's a lifelong endeavor that demands dedication, creativity, and an unwavering commitment to crafting memorable dining experiences. And, since I chose this path, as they say: I have not worked a day!
